Computer Based Training
Computer based training also known as computer software training is a general term used to refer to computer-enhanced learning. Basically, the main idea is that the process of learning is not done in the same manner that one would expect from a common educational environment. Instead of having a conventional classroom and instructor or professor setting, computer based training involves learning using software applications installed in computers. In other words, the computers train the students. Oftentimes, this method of learning can be more effective than the practice of teaching and learning in classrooms because the student, if working alone, can set his or her own pace of learning and not be forced to go any faster or slower than what he or she can handle.
An example of this type of training would be the following: Person A would like to learn how to use image editing software program so they purchase the computer based training for that specific software application. Usually, person A should already have the software he wants to learn from; otherwise he will just purchase it at the same time. While being trained by the computer assisted instructions, person A can also at the same time check and put into practice all that he or she has learned so far in the training.
Due to its effectiveness, its popularity has increased dramatically over the years. More and more programs are being put up or created as we speak in order to satisfy the high demand. There are hundreds of these computer based training programs on the web for free. However, some of these programs may require you to pay some sort of fee. You can also find programs that can be customized to what you want. This is really useful to businesses when trying to train their staff in using common software application such as, word, excel and so on. Most of these programs will teach using videos, flash examples and audio files.
Key advantages of e-learning are flexibility, convenience and the ability to work at any place where an internet connection is available and at one's own pace. This allows learners to participate and complete coursework in accordance with their daily commitments. This makes e-learning education a good choice for those that have other commitments such as family or work or cannot go to a campus due to some personal reasons. In the past, computer based training was not as easily accessible or suitable for businesses as it required a tremendous amount of hardware and software, which cost a whole lot more than the prices we have today. In today's generation, almost everyone has access to a personal computer at home, at work or at computer labs in libraries and schools. This level of access to computers has helped increase the use of computer based training programs, as well as a growth in computer based training industry. So far, the worldwide e-learning industry is estimated to be worth over 38 billion euros according to conservative estimates.
